A small part of the Royal Family’s surviving books is located today in the Vrana Palace as part of the Royal Library. These are mainly the books, which Queen Giovanna managed to take on her departure of the country in 1946. As it is known, the Queen left the larger part of her library in Bulgaria, given the promise of the Fatherland Front’s government that they would send it to her later. Alas, it didn’t ever work. Among the old volumes stored in the Royal Library of the King Boris and Queen Giovanna Fund, today are some of the books of Queen Giovanna’s parents, the Italian King Victor Emmanuel III and Queen Helena. Separate volumes of King Boris III and Princesses Eudoxia and Nadezhda, brought by H.R.H. Princess Maria Louisa, are also kept. Another part of the books came from King Ferdinand’s library at his home, the Augustine Palace in Coburg, Germany. As of the older editions, all annual issues of Almanach de Gotha have been preserved – from the earliest yearbook of 1689 to the last official one of 1943.
